Though I typically photograph children and families, there is a personal photography project I’ve been thinking about for a while now.

I thought it would be nice to photograph seniors – the grandma and grandpa variety, not the high school variety.

No clever or profound reason for it – just seems like an interesting group of folks.  Time seems to be picking up speed and I’m often interested in stories from people who’ve already been where I’ve been, and done even more.

When I went looking for a suitable senior set to photograph for this month’s “Friendship” themed blog circle, a friend of mine put me in contact with Mrs. H.

A lovely southerner with a Doctorate in Music who’s taken up “temporary” residence here with us northerners.  Her sweet accent matches her personality.

Mrs. H told me about her friend, Ms. C.  A fellow southerner who moved in right across the hall from Mrs. H, promptly shifting from senior community neighbors to lively school-girl dorm-mates.  Together they entertained the rest of their community with singing, piano performances and dramatic holiday outfits.

I went to meet Mrs. H and took in her story of how she met her friend, Ms. C, and how after only three years their friendship was put on hold when Ms. C. passed suddenly.  Sometimes it takes me a while to process things, and I find myself tearful tonight as I remember her short story and a couple of photos Mrs. H. shared with me.

Friends and family are so important, and I’m happy to say that I’ve made a new friend myself, with Mrs. H.

What a lovely thing indeed.
